Add me if any of the following apply to you: you have an unhealthy love for one Jim Halpert (especially post-strike Jim, dreamysigh), you wish you could get sick in Seattle with the hopes of being treated by super hot McDoctors, you spend your days wishing you could be a forensic scientist at the Jeffersonian with the squints, you really do love House in spite of (and also because of) his snark, you sometimes wonder what your superpower would be if you were a real Hero, you know for certain that the cancellation of shows such as Firefly and Arrested Development was in fact a government conspiracy, you can't decide who you love more: Sam or Dean Winchester (so you choose to love them both), you wholeheartedly believe that Buffy and Angel lived happily ever after, you find yourself making "that's what she said" jokes more often than is healthy, watching Pushing Daisies makes you want to bake and/or eat lots and lots of pie, you sort of wish that Central Perk actually existed, you find your vocabulary becoming more and more like that of Project Runway's Tim Gunn, you can appreciate good photography, great music and amazing movies, and if you were stuck on an island with Sawyer, you would so tap that. (So say we all.)

In the midst of partying like it's 2012 (if by partying you mean catching up on Shameless, pretending to be Batman via playing Arkham City and waking up tired and in need of coffee shortly before church), Yuletide authors were revealed!

This was mine, otherwise known as The One Where Carly Writes Another New Fandom:
let nothing you dismay by [archiveofourown.org profile] austen
Fandom: The Hour
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Bel Rowley, Freddie Lyon, Hector Madden, Lix Storm
Summary: Christmas Eve, 1965: We interrupt your scheduled programming to bring you this breaking news. The threat of a rapidly spreading epidemic has the entire staff of The Hour spending a holiday in unexpected quarantine.

I will admit that this was a fandom I only considered signing up to write for but decided against at the last minute, only to get it as one of my prompts attached to something else! Basically, when my recipient mentioned zombie apocalypses in her request, even as a throwaway, I was hooked on the idea of doing something in that vein for this fandom. It turned out being slightly AU, but I'm super happy with how it turned out - and my recipient loved it too, which is ultimately the best thing ever.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] yuletide author:

You got me! Lucky you.

I'm not very difficult to please in terms of the fic I read and what I enjoy to read: in general and overall, I love reading fic that has a lot of snark and banter between characters (which should not surprise you, given that what I've requested is mostly in fandoms that are sort of known for that back-and-forth). I like fun, happy fic; I also like sweet-and-slightly-sexy fic, and am occasionally into angst, but in this case, it'd probably go further with me if things took a more positive turn. I love unresolved (and eventually resolved) sexual tension, but I also love established relationship if done right. Action/adventure, comedy, cracky fun; even tossing the characters into an AU situation (like apocafic) and watching them flounder around can create a lot of this. I love it when two people have feelings but don't necessarily say them to each other out loud. I LOVE road trip fic. Things can totally happen in a car, people!

Things that are sort of on my current list of icks at the moment: gratuitous violence and all that related imagery, and also any kind of character bashing, even if it may not be a character that I'm not particularly fond of. Let's just spread the love, okay?

And now, the requests. I'll probably come back and expand on these requests later on, but this is for linking purposes right now.

Here, behind this cut here! )

I hope this offered a little more insight into preferences and why I picked what I did; if you want to check out my fic for more reference on how I treat my fandoms (and you're not already on my f-list), you can find most of it linked for public access here.

Thanks, and happy writing!

sinister kid.
Because it's Saturday night, and I'm sitting at home, bored, with nothing to do, so clearly there should be something like this floating around, right? I need to reactivate my writing mojo if I'm ever going to make some headway on those fic requests. Curse you, Yuletide. Anyway, I take no serious credit for this, the idea behind it is all inspired by [livejournal.com profile] stainofmylove, and is open to anyone and everyone who wants to participate:

comment fic meme

1. Post prompts, one per comment. Post one, post five, post ten. The more, the merrier applies here.
2. And prompt for a variety of fandoms.
3. Post ficlets in response to the prompt's comment thread.
4. Lather, rinse, repeat. Oh, and pimp to your friends. We like a big crowd.

Things that are sort of on my current list of icks at the moment: since one of my fandoms kind of implies the gratuitous violence thing, right now it's just limited to any kind of character bashing, even if it's a character that I'm not particularly fond of. Let's just spread the love, okay?

And now, the requests. They'll be expanded on later, when I'm not in dire need of a shower before work.

how we operate.

Thanks to permission from [livejournal.com profile] ineffort (whose baby this totally and completely is; I claim no ownership), the commentfic portion of the Awesome Ladies Ficathon has been given a hosting on Dreamwidth!

Now, the rules (graciously borrowed with love and trimmed from the original post at LJ):

1. Post prompts! Given the nature of this ficathon, your prompt must focus on a woman. Format them as such: fandom, character(s) [+ pairings if any], your choice of prompt be it a lyric, a word, etc.
2. Answer prompts! Though you do not need one to write. They're there to serve as inspiration. Post away with or without one. Fics need to posted with the following subject line: fandom, character(s) [+ pairings if any], title, rating. Also more than one person can respond to the same prompt. Remember to include a subject line when you fill a prompt; it'll make it easier to find your commentfic when we compile a master list later on.
3. LEAVE FEEDBACK. Let the author know if you liked their fic, an angel will get its wings if you do, FACT.
4. Beware of spoilers. /sole warning
5. HAVE FUN!

1. man is never a full king (Mad Men, Joan/Roger)
In the midst of a transition, Joan wanders into an old tradition.
This is a story that perfectly captures the post-finale relationship that I'm pretty sure every single fan of this pairing would like to see. It's Joan and it's Roger and it's so delightfully and wonderfully them, and even though you know perfectly well they have others waiting for them at home, they're really only completely comfortable with each other.

2. Intreat me not to leave thee (Life, Crews/Reese, Karen Davis, Jack Reese)
Davis is Jack Reese's partner for a long time.
A look back at the partnership between Davis and Reese, a peek into how Davis first met Reese, and the unique relationship between captain and cop that we never got to see happen pre-canon - as well as a lovely and bittersweet post-canon moment.

3. Altars Barbarous Below (Eastwick, Joanna/Roxie/Kat + Darryl)
All Darryl had to do to keep the women safe from themselves was to keep them apart or, failing that, distracted.
THIS. This is a perfect testament to the magic of the show and the way in which these women could legitimately become girlfriends if things had ever gone that route. Plus Darryl is a delightful mix of creepy and sexy. It reads with the potential to be a real episode.

4. Fades, If You Let It (Friday Night Lights, Tim Riggins with appearances from the Panthers)
It's not very big, and it's certainly not set up to hold a few dozen people, but somehow here they all are at Tim's small ranch house... Five years later, a reunion of the Dillon State Champs.
After watching the most recent episode of the show, I was hoping something would be written revolving around that epic piece of land, and we got it in this futurefic that literally sounds like something from the show itself - a beautiful reunion between the former State champions who are more like family by this point. A must-read.

5. bright yellow sky (Friday Night Lights, Jess Meriweather)
You just gotta keep doing it, okay, just keep doing it over and over, do it thousands of times, 'cause you'll get that muscle memory. Just y'know, just forget about the guys, the big guys charging at you, and the fans, the chaos, just like, zone in, inside yourself and forget it all, let it all, the chaos, just let it go. Just let it go, you know?
A stunning, beautifully crafted character piece on one of the newest additions to the cast.

(And, for reference, a link to my exclamation-point-riddled rec of the Yuletide piece I received, Family (or the Perfect Fruit Salad), is here.)
all the rest is by the way.
I got Life fic for Christmas!

Family (or the Perfect Fruit Salad): Life, Crews/Reese with appearances by Ted and Rachel(!)

YES. Just SO MUCH YES. Most of this is stolen from the comment I left as I am running around like a chicken with its head cut off, but: I don't even know where to start, but this is exactly what I wanted and so much more and I've read it at least five times and I can't stop finding things that I absolutely, completely LOVE SO HARD. My writer captured everything I wanted in my prompt and found a way to revolve it around fruit. And I love that this is from Crews' perspective, because he's so mysterious and yet so wonderful and they found a way to write all of that so incredibly well. And Crews and Reese are incredibly hot together but also so indefinably them (with him still letting her drive even after they get together and make attempts at actual domesticity), and Rachel is just this slightly surly but also adorable teenager who is very protective of her Uncle Charlie, and Ted grumbling in the background about having to get the Christmas tree - all of this, so perfect, I can't even begin to describe how perfect.

No word yet on the pinch hit I wrote, but my recipient absolutely loved my story, which made me so happy (as I sort of wound up incorporating a lot of her requests without even intentionally realizing I was doing it at times), so that was a fun thing to wake up to. It was a big risk for me to take in terms of writing style - and even the fandom I wrote was one that I had very little character basis to work from, but I'm very happy with how it turned out and that it worked for my giftee. So yay!

Oh, and if you can guess which two stories I am responsible for, you get fic of your own! Feel free to send me a PM with your guesses, since comments are not screened.

Also: my parents gifted me with Transporter 2 and 3, so guess who will be spending their Christmas looking at Robert Kneppar's face?

Not a bad Christmas at all, for sure.

Title: oh Lord, it really brings me down about the devil town
Author: [livejournal.com profile] austen
Rating: NC-17
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel/Friday Night Lights/Supernatural
Words: ~15,000
Pairing: Sam Winchester/Fred Burkle; Dean Winchester/Tyra Collette/Tim Riggins; Buffy Summers/John Winchester.
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] polybigbang, and dedicated to everyone who helped, beta'd, proofread, and just generally cheered and handheld throughout the writing of this: [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight (whose brainstorming ultimately helped contribute to the main tie-in for this wonderful crossover), [livejournal.com profile] hateable (who was one of the best motivators a first time Big Bang writer could ask for), [livejournal.com profile] inkdot (another amazing cheerleader, ♥ !), and [livejournal.com profile] cidercupcakes (mahvelous, dahling, simply mahvelous). Many thanks also go out to [livejournal.com profile] elohvee for the absolutely gorgeous mix and cover art and for her willingness to include the song from this fic's title in the soundtrack. It goes without saying that this would've never been finished without all of your help, and for that, the words 'thank you' do not even begin to cover it, but hopefully, this time, they'll be enough.
Warnings: Secondary character death, in a sense, as well as some smut.
Disclaimer: The following belongs to Whedon, Kripke, Berg, etc.; not mine, no profit being made, etc.
Summary: In November, when Dillon gets its first vampires, what happens when two hunters, a Slayer, a soulful vampire and a former physicist show up? They've each got their reasons for visiting - family, vacation, or the job of the hunt itself - but they'll each find that they get more than they bargained for in a town where the football craze rolls in like the summer wind - felt right when it comes, but gone before anyone knows where it's disappeared to.

Ugh. I definitely only got about three hours of sleep this morning, since I had to wake up at 4:30 for a 6:30 flight. Got in at 9, fell asleep at 10:15, slept until 1:45. Still feel exhausted.

Have work to do, too. Also class at 3 - but it's creative writing, which will hopefully not require Big Thinking.
