my muffin hasn't had a cherry since 1939!

I had this amazing dream last night!

It was basically an AU of the movie Tootsie, except this time the main character was MtF, which made it even better. I don't know, my dream sort of was the movie, like an interactive three-d thing where I was the spectator but also in the movie, but not of the movie, if you see what I mean.

And, the best part of all, it was Dustin Hoffman/Bill Murray. And as Michael transitions to Tootsie, you know, they really fall in love, and they have tough things to get through (like commitment issues and body issues and stuff) but they are always best friends and in love. Like, there was a scene where they're having sex, kind of awkwardly under the blankets, after Tootsie has had breast implants, and she's really upset that she doesn't have the nipple sensitivity that she'd had or hoped for, and Bill's trying to reassure her but they're both still cracking a few jokes--it's really funny and sweet, not negative jokes at all but jokes that grow out of their relationship. And then Bill, like, kisses the inside of Tootsie's knee, and she's like, Oh, wait, what was that? And it turns out that maybe her breasts aren't overly sensitive but she has this spot on the inside of her thigh that she's never really given a thought to that's suddenly like YES THAT PLEASE. And so it all works out in the end.

And then like the work stuff--instead of being about discrimination against women in the workplace, it's about discrimination against trans people, as you might expect. And I don't really have a memory of how it worked in my dream, but those scenes were there, and relevant, and funny, but in no way cruel: they mattered, but there was still that sweet earnest humour to them, the same sort that I do associate with the real movie Tootsie (it's mostly Hoffman's performance), even though the real movie certainly still has its issues.

I don't know! It was just really cool! The whole movie played out in my brain but I also got to say, Well surely there'll be a scene where... and then there was. I call this lucid dreaming of a sort, where there's a plot going on and while I don't make a decision that this or that should happen, I can hope that my brain will concentrate on this or the other part, and usually it does. And Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray did an excellent job with the material, I must say! Obviously they were the ages they were in Tootsie, right, and they both had very soulful eyes, and the transition from BFFs to more was just wonderfully quiet and natural, while still being caustic and flaily by turns.

Now I wish this movie (or this fic!) existed. Time to trawl the tags on the AO3, I guess...or else wait until Yuletide next year. That could be really good!
