In the midst of partying like it's 2012 (if by partying you mean catching up on Shameless, pretending to be Batman via playing Arkham City and waking up tired and in need of coffee shortly before church), Yuletide authors were revealed!

This was mine, otherwise known as The One Where Carly Writes Another New Fandom:
let nothing you dismay by [archiveofourown.org profile] austen
Fandom: The Hour
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Bel Rowley, Freddie Lyon, Hector Madden, Lix Storm
Summary: Christmas Eve, 1965: We interrupt your scheduled programming to bring you this breaking news. The threat of a rapidly spreading epidemic has the entire staff of The Hour spending a holiday in unexpected quarantine.

I will admit that this was a fandom I only considered signing up to write for but decided against at the last minute, only to get it as one of my prompts attached to something else! Basically, when my recipient mentioned zombie apocalypses in her request, even as a throwaway, I was hooked on the idea of doing something in that vein for this fandom. It turned out being slightly AU, but I'm super happy with how it turned out - and my recipient loved it too, which is ultimately the best thing ever.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] yuletide author:

You got me! Lucky you.

I'm not very difficult to please in terms of the fic I read and what I enjoy to read: in general and overall, I love reading fic that has a lot of snark and banter between characters (which should not surprise you, given that what I've requested is mostly in fandoms that are sort of known for that back-and-forth). I like fun, happy fic; I also like sweet-and-slightly-sexy fic, and am occasionally into angst, but in this case, it'd probably go further with me if things took a more positive turn. I love unresolved (and eventually resolved) sexual tension, but I also love established relationship if done right. Action/adventure, comedy, cracky fun; even tossing the characters into an AU situation (like apocafic) and watching them flounder around can create a lot of this. I love it when two people have feelings but don't necessarily say them to each other out loud. I LOVE road trip fic. Things can totally happen in a car, people!

Things that are sort of on my current list of icks at the moment: gratuitous violence and all that related imagery, and also any kind of character bashing, even if it may not be a character that I'm not particularly fond of. Let's just spread the love, okay?

And now, the requests. I'll probably come back and expand on these requests later on, but this is for linking purposes right now.

Here, behind this cut here! )

I hope this offered a little more insight into preferences and why I picked what I did; if you want to check out my fic for more reference on how I treat my fandoms (and you're not already on my f-list), you can find most of it linked for public access here.

Thanks, and happy writing!

Things that are sort of on my current list of icks at the moment: since one of my fandoms kind of implies the gratuitous violence thing, right now it's just limited to any kind of character bashing, even if it's a character that I'm not particularly fond of. Let's just spread the love, okay?

And now, the requests. They'll be expanded on later, when I'm not in dire need of a shower before work.

Yuletide reveals, ahoy!

Just in time for me to get in the door, so here's what I wrote before I hop in the shower:

A story, a pinch hit, and a Madness treat! )
parentheses: (used to know.), once upon a time. emma swan. (c) <lj site="livejournal.com" comm="eiderdownfluff">.
1. man is never a full king (Mad Men, Joan/Roger)
In the midst of a transition, Joan wanders into an old tradition.
This is a story that perfectly captures the post-finale relationship that I'm pretty sure every single fan of this pairing would like to see. It's Joan and it's Roger and it's so delightfully and wonderfully them, and even though you know perfectly well they have others waiting for them at home, they're really only completely comfortable with each other.

2. Intreat me not to leave thee (Life, Crews/Reese, Karen Davis, Jack Reese)
Davis is Jack Reese's partner for a long time.
A look back at the partnership between Davis and Reese, a peek into how Davis first met Reese, and the unique relationship between captain and cop that we never got to see happen pre-canon - as well as a lovely and bittersweet post-canon moment.

3. Altars Barbarous Below (Eastwick, Joanna/Roxie/Kat + Darryl)
All Darryl had to do to keep the women safe from themselves was to keep them apart or, failing that, distracted.
THIS. This is a perfect testament to the magic of the show and the way in which these women could legitimately become girlfriends if things had ever gone that route. Plus Darryl is a delightful mix of creepy and sexy. It reads with the potential to be a real episode.

4. Fades, If You Let It (Friday Night Lights, Tim Riggins with appearances from the Panthers)
It's not very big, and it's certainly not set up to hold a few dozen people, but somehow here they all are at Tim's small ranch house... Five years later, a reunion of the Dillon State Champs.
After watching the most recent episode of the show, I was hoping something would be written revolving around that epic piece of land, and we got it in this futurefic that literally sounds like something from the show itself - a beautiful reunion between the former State champions who are more like family by this point. A must-read.

5. bright yellow sky (Friday Night Lights, Jess Meriweather)
You just gotta keep doing it, okay, just keep doing it over and over, do it thousands of times, 'cause you'll get that muscle memory. Just y'know, just forget about the guys, the big guys charging at you, and the fans, the chaos, just like, zone in, inside yourself and forget it all, let it all, the chaos, just let it go. Just let it go, you know?
A stunning, beautifully crafted character piece on one of the newest additions to the cast.

(And, for reference, a link to my exclamation-point-riddled rec of the Yuletide piece I received, Family (or the Perfect Fruit Salad), is here.)

I got Life fic for Christmas!

Family (or the Perfect Fruit Salad): Life, Crews/Reese with appearances by Ted and Rachel(!)

YES. Just SO MUCH YES. Most of this is stolen from the comment I left as I am running around like a chicken with its head cut off, but: I don't even know where to start, but this is exactly what I wanted and so much more and I've read it at least five times and I can't stop finding things that I absolutely, completely LOVE SO HARD. My writer captured everything I wanted in my prompt and found a way to revolve it around fruit. And I love that this is from Crews' perspective, because he's so mysterious and yet so wonderful and they found a way to write all of that so incredibly well. And Crews and Reese are incredibly hot together but also so indefinably them (with him still letting her drive even after they get together and make attempts at actual domesticity), and Rachel is just this slightly surly but also adorable teenager who is very protective of her Uncle Charlie, and Ted grumbling in the background about having to get the Christmas tree - all of this, so perfect, I can't even begin to describe how perfect.

No word yet on the pinch hit I wrote, but my recipient absolutely loved my story, which made me so happy (as I sort of wound up incorporating a lot of her requests without even intentionally realizing I was doing it at times), so that was a fun thing to wake up to. It was a big risk for me to take in terms of writing style - and even the fandom I wrote was one that I had very little character basis to work from, but I'm very happy with how it turned out and that it worked for my giftee. So yay!

Oh, and if you can guess which two stories I am responsible for, you get fic of your own! Feel free to send me a PM with your guesses, since comments are not screened.

Also: my parents gifted me with Transporter 2 and 3, so guess who will be spending their Christmas looking at Robert Kneppar's face?

Not a bad Christmas at all, for sure.
